Podcast
In the Loop is a current events podcast produced by the Civic Duty team at Rice University. The podcast focuses on analyzing a current local or national issue from a student perspective, providing guest commentary, and giving listeners concrete ideas of ways they can get involved in issues they care about. A.R.T (Activism: React and Transition)
Civic Duty Rice worked in collaboration with Baker Ripley on a post 2016 midterm election event.Houston students, artists, and community members showcased the Houston Reaction to the 2018 midterm election results through art (poems, drawings, paintings) and afterwards received nonpartisan information about how they could channel their energy into civic engagement.
Homelessness Forum
On April 6th, 2019, in collaboration with the Rice Coalition for Hunger & Homelessness and Koeun Lee, we hosted an educational panel on the health and wellbeing of Houston’s homeless population and how the city and various organizations tackle the issues associated with providing adequate care and help. The following six speakers were invited to Rice University to share their experiences and expertise: Marc Eichenbaum JD from the Mayor for Homeless Initiatives, Kenneth DeVon Eakins MA from Star of Hope, Jackie Eaton (CEO, Founder) from Gateway to Sobriety, Sarah McGriff MD from HOMES Clinic, David Buck MD MPH from University of Houston, College of Medicine, and Daniel Price from University of Houston, Honors College.
