“This semester, voter engagement and education are Student Association priorities. Voting is our primary avenue for making local, state, and national change; as students who value equity, inclusion, and growth, we who can vote have a responsibility to promote the same values in our community by casting our vote. One student-led partner that I’d like to highlight is the Houston Youth Voter’s Conference, a Rice-student driven initiative to empower Houston’s youth to engage civically by voting. We’ll be partnering with the Houston Youth Voter’s Conference to provide voter education to Rice students and to continue our voting-related advocacy efforts, and strongly encourage you to explore the educational opportunities the conference has to offer.”

“The Houston Youth Voter Conference is a wonderful engagement for students to attend to empower their voices. It is a celebration of the rights & privileges to participate in voting. It is an excellent way to learn about civic engagement. The key concepts of the conference are voter turnout, voter registration, partisan dialogue & volunteering. Participate in democracy & empower your voice!”

“It is imperative to have a Houston Youth Voter Conference for the student body at HCC. It will educate us and help us stay informed. Sometimes we are too busy that we forget the importance of voting. There is a system and we all have a voice, we just need to speak to be heard. I believe this conference will not only motivate students but will also help them gain confidence in expressing themselves. We can all make a difference and this is definitely a way to start!”

“A voice, that’s what we all have. During these challenging times, we must use our voice to give voice to the voiceless. However, there are forces, systems in place to keep us silent. The Houston Youth Voters Conference gives us all and especially the youth a platform to use our voice. HYVC is dedicated to empowering the youth, the leaders of tomorrow.”

“Angela Davis notoriously stated, “I am no longer accepting the things I cannot change. I am changing the things I cannot accept. As the forefront for college voting nationally, it is imperative that we exercise our right to vote. We here at Prairie View are all too familiar with voter suppression and the constant obstacles that are placed in our way. The Houston Youth Voters Conference is a beautiful way to educate and exercise the right to vote. PV Produces Productive People!”
